One of the purest joys of being a mom is watching your kids do things independently and learning about what it is that they truly love. Carter loves basketball. Granted, he has very little natural talent at the tender age of 5, but he loves the sport. I think that might have more to do with his Uncle Mark than anything else, but he loves it none the less. We just wrapped up our first season with the "Lubbock Lakers," coached by Uncle Mark and Mike. I am not sure what our official record ended up being. We had two kids who could "make a shoot" (Carter's words), and the rest of them knew which way to run and were pretty cute to watch!
What Carter lacked in talent, he more than compensated for in his keen sense of athletic style. The sweatband quickly became his trademark and was non-negotiable for every game.
I continue to be amazed at Mark. He gave up 12 consecutive Saturday mornings to invest in the lives of these little people. His patience, kindness, and encouragement were phenomenal. The kids lit up around him. One little man in particular, thinks that his coach hung the moon.
Here is an action shot of Carter dribbling. The few times that he had the ball during a game, he did this fancy little wiggle while he dribbled with unmatched intensity. He told me afterwards that he was certain that his "moves" would distract the other team. He might have been on to something. . .
Coach in action. By the end of the season, the Lakers all knew to get their hands up when they were under the basket. I call that progress!
Next to snack time, the best thing about LCAA sports is the trophy at the end of the season! This one is proudly displayed on Carter's desk!
Thanks for a great season, Lakers!

This is awesome! I didn't know about the Lubbock Lakers! Way to go, Uncle Mark for being such a great coach!
My love of basketball increased 10 fold this season. The coach and players were all adorable, go Lakers!
